Assuming you don’t live under a rock, you are very familiar with the “Stimulus Package.” Media outlets have been covering the approval of the plan, but what does it entail and how will it affect everyday lives?

Major elements of the plan call for improvements in our nation’s technology and the creation of more green jobs – two areas that this PR firm knows extremely well. In recent years, we have seen the ebbs and flows of the industry as well as an overwhelming response as companies respond to the call for change.

The recent article “Stimulus 1st step in Obama’s broadband goals: aide” by Kim Dixon of Reuters details how President Obama’s plan will effect the technology community. Funding from the plan will help to build telecommunication services and upgrade Internet speeds.  However, some worry that granted funds are only a fraction of the amount needed to upgrade the United States and connect rural areas with Internet capabilities. But is it a step in the right direction?

A large portion of the package focuses on green initiatives and according to the recent article “A Smaller, Faster Stimulus Plan, but Still With a Lot of Money” by David M. Herszenhorn of the New York Times the need for renewable energy was not forgotten. President Obama’s plan will upgrade buildings with green technology and invest funds in wind, solar and other energy sources. This will in turn lead to the creation of more jobs.

The President’s plan seems to follow and highlight trends that we have all recently seen. Organizations are now leveraging the power of the Internet and investing time as well as money into videos, blogs and social media – technology. The growth of companies promoting eco-friendly products has also surged.

At times like these, there is no plan that would be approved without criticism or opposition. But are the President’s priorities in the right place? For an industry, and more importantly a climate that needs change, it seems the Stimulus Package may just possibly be the answer.  Only time will tell.
